Summer Concert Series Continues

The annual summer concert series sponsored by the Fan District Association and hosted in Meadow Park (the triangle park at Meadow St. and Park Ave.) continues this Tuesday, July 20th, at 7 PM. Here are the details:

The Richmond Concert Band will perform.  The theme for the evening is “Music Takes Flight,” and the program will include movie music, Sousa marches, a Johann Strauss polka, and a song made popular by Toto. This is a free, family-friendly concert.  Bring a lawn chair or a blanket, and join us.  As always, the FDA will provide free ice cream for everyone.

Support Stocky

Admittedly, I’m often late to the party. I just learned about kickstarter.com earlier this week. And then, local art student Harrison launched this kickstarter campaign–in support of his website idea: Stocky.

Check out the idea:

“a new collaborative environment for stock media (stocky photography, brushes, vectors, videos, audio, etc)… that encourages users to collaborate and share their work, accessing others work in return. Sharing will be the name of the game, like open source.”

And check out kickstarter, too.

Wolf-dog Law

The following comes from John Gilbody, FDA Safety Committee Chair:

“The Richmond City Council passed an ordinance regulating wolf/dog hybrids this week.  Specifically, the new law requires owners to build an eight foot fence with concrete base and fencing extending into the ground.  The ordinance also requires a second fence around the first to protect the public from attack through the fence.  All owners are subject to the requirements of the new law.  Charles Samuels took the lead on this public safety issue.”

Fan Parking Decal Placement

This from the Fan District Association:

Please note that there is a change in the placement of your Fan Parking Permit for Zones 1 & 2.  The State Police require that the parking decal to be placed on the FRONT windshield, not on the back window as in prior years.

Acceptable placement is on the inside lower left corner (driver’s side) within one inch of the extreme left edge of the windshield with bottom of the sticker within three inches of the bottom of the windshield.  Also, all old stickers must be removed.  You should have received this info with your parking permit renewal application.

New Work at Page Bond to Open 7/7

The Page Bond Gallery is pleased to present paintings by recent MFA recipient Lana Waldrep.  On view will be large paintings from her thesis exhibition as well as smaller earlier works. Waldrep’s isolated landscapes of industrial matter, void of environmental references, liberate her audience to re-examine objects as pure form and shape.

Additionally, Summer Solstice, the annual summer group exhibition, will include painting, photography, sculpture and work on paper by gallery artists.

These works will be at the Page Bond Gallery, 1625 West Main Street with an opening reception honoring the artists, Wednesday, July 7, 2010 from 7 to 9 PM. The exhibition will remain on view through Friday, August 30, 2010.
