Pretty good advice. Richmond is not a very walkable city. not to mention – walking around by yourself in richmond when you don’t understand the area could very easily end poorly. Our dangerous neighborhoods are very close to very nice ones and sometimes it’s hard for people to recognize when they have walked into a dangerous area.
@fanofthefan Maybe they just mean you shouldn’t try to walk to town from the airport. @laptopmnky
RVA is an awful city to walk in. Either sidewalks are unexpectedly missing, or residents let their bushes/weeds/etc cover most of the sidewalks: so both problems mean walking in the street too often. And we all know how alert and law abiding the drivers and bicyclists are that pedestrians are forced to Share The Road with.
Add to that the majority of existing sidewalks that are cracked, full of holes or uprooted by trees. They’re an obstacle course to be carefully navigated in order to avoid falling (or again, just walk in the street instead).
Add to that: the corner curb cutaways for wheelchairs, which is ludicrous since the sidewalks are too useless for wheelchairs to utilize either.
I guess we have some work to do.
French Embassy “reviewing the accuracy” of Richmond warning
“The French Embassy in Washington is now reviewing a travel warning issued for Richmond, after France listed the capital as among the 16 most dangerous destinations in the United States.”
