RVA Playlist Presents: Live at Ipanema with This Manic Seas

Sunday, September 8 / 10PM / FREE

The September installment of Live at Ipanema will be a special night of music curated by Andrew Cothern of RVA Playlist and featuring Those Manic Seas.

Andrew Cothern (AKA RVA Playlist): “I’m happy to announce that I will be curating next month’s “Live at Ipanema” show at Ipanema Cafe. The band featured next month will be Those Manic Seas, who are making some serious waves in the Richmond music scene lately. They released a 7-inch single earlier this year entitled “Headache/Heartache” and are currently working on some new songs. Those Manic Seas have been blowing up big time lately, and if you catch a live show, it’s easy to see why.”

Those Manic Seas is a three piece band that attempts to push the boundaries of what a rock band should be. The band hails from Richmond, Virginia and combines elements of post-rock and shoegaze in order to create unique songs that leave the entire audience
dancing. Those Manic Seas released their self-titled EP in September of 2011 capping off a 2-year recording process. In December of 2012, the band went back to Sound of Music Studios and recorded two songs with Alan Weatherhead. The ‘Headache/Heartache’ 7″ record was released in May of 2013.

Andrew Cothern is a music writer in Richmond, Virginia. After writing for numerous music blogs, Cothern created RVA Playlist in early 2010 to highlight the local music scene that rarely receives attention in Richmond’s mainstream media as well as the national and international artists that come through the city. Over the past few years, RVA Playlist has grown into one of the most popular music blogs in the city.

Cothern regularly contributes to Style Weekly and has written for the Richmond Times-Dispatch,, River City Rapids, The Richmond Scene, GayRVA and many others. Cothern has also been featured in the Richmond Times-Dispatch, Richmond Magazine and received a top honor of being named one of the best librarian blogs for the 2012 Fascination Awards (although he isn’t sure how that even happened).

Live at Ipanema is a free live performance series at Ipanema Cafe. The shows by local and regional artists are recorded by Allen Bergendahl and photographed by PJ Sykes, and then shared online. The band gets a high-quality recording and professional photography, and everyone else gets a great evening of music. Check out the Live at Ipanema archives online at [].
