Virginia Commonwealth University’s Pollak Building Green Roof, designed by VMDO Architects with Siteworks Studio, was completed in fall 2011. The green roof and terrace occupy a southeast-facing roof area, directly accessible from the fifth floor of the School of the Arts building at 325 North Harrison Street, in Richmond, Virginia.
The occupiable terrace, paved in Pennsylvania Bluestone, allows visitors to relax in a tranquil environment surrounded by the green roofscape. The terrace features numerous sustainable design elements including native plant species, Black Locust benches, salvaged steel planters, and LED lighting. Check out the project here.
VCU INSTITUTE FOR CONTEMPORARY ART
VCUARTS Dean Joseph H. Seipel will discuss the vision and design for the VCU Institute for Contemporary Art, which is scheduled to be open in 2015 at the corner of Broad and Belvidere. Designed by world-renowned architect Steven Holl, with innovative spaces for the presentation of visual art, performance and film, the ICA will be a creative center for the university, and the community, presenting the art of our time from around the world; a fitting complement to VCU’s top-ranked School of the Arts.
