Lawsuit over loud music at Sticky Rice
The Fan District Association Facebook is reporting Richmond BizSense’s post that Sticky Rice is being sued for being too loud:
William Graeter v. Gumbo’s Creole Café, L.C. d/b/a Sticky Rice
Plaintiff resides approximately 40 yards from restaurant at 2232 W. Main St. and says defendant operates a speaker system that routinely produces sound and bass vibrations at levels audible inside his home, even with all doors and windows of both properties shut. Plaintiff asks that the court enjoin defendant from causing and/or maintaining the level of sound/vibrations emitted, among other relief.

I proposed a compromise where if they turned it down a little bit and I heard it only on the weekends, or on Tuesday night because I recognize they have a pretty well-established Karaoke thing, then that would be okay. I just didn’t want it to wake me up, and didn’t want to hear it every day. If one of you geniuses can explain to me how that wasn’t a reasonable position, I’d love to hear it.
John Yamashita made assurances, but after that he never answered his email again. I proposed a lot of things over a very long period of time and did everything I could to work it out. Lander Salzburg just smirked and made the same promises over and over again, so now they’re going to court. Scream and call me all the names you want. If they had a defensible position then Yamashita wouldn’t hide from me and his people would be straightforward about what they do.
Sticky Rice was extremely successful for over a decade before they decided to hire Delux’s sound engineer and install a heavy low-frequency system that forces bass into surrounding homes. I personally do not care how loud you play your stupid party boy music, provided you don’t make me listen to it.
If Jason Henry wants to run a boomer bar, that’s his decision. He just needs to spend a few thousand dollars or so and effectively sound proof his place, and then he can hammer his patrons with the sub-woofer all he wants without hurting anyone else. That way everyone does their own thing without screwing anyone else, and everybody’s happy.
Or you could move to somewhere like the SUBURBS instead of the CITY, where there aren’t things like people having a good time and noise. Anyone with a noise allergy is delusional, The Fan isn’t getting any quieter.
