My best guest is the [fantastic] NY Deli…a few months ago my grandpa and I went to NY Deli for dinner, he told me how he went there back in the 1930′s.
Ok, good feedback, let’s narrow this down. 86 the Jefferson, I’m not going to count a hotel – I’m thinking about independent restaurant/bar type places.
The Tobacco Company dates back to the mid-1970s.
The Robin Inn at Robinson and Park has been this version of the restaurant since 1964.
I’m guessing that maybe Joe’s Inn or Bamboo go back pretty far.
The Village Cafe could make a claim, but the current version has only been in that location since the early 1990s.
Tobacco Co? The Jefferson?

What else has been around forever?
Just looked on NY Deli’s site, they say…”Opening in 1929 and in its present location since 1934, the New York Deli is Richmond’s oldest restaurant.”
Chiocca’s has been around for a long time, too. Since the 30′s or 40′s I believe.
How about Buddy’s? It, and the bar at Hanover and Robinson (known originally as Hanover Inn) have been around for decades.
Joe’s Inn dates back to 1952:
“Joe Mencarini opened Joe’s Inn with his family in 1952. He sold it to the Cash brothers in 1975. And they sold it to the Kafanaris family in 1977, who still own and operate the beloved Fan restaurant today.”
