Saturday afternoon, the VCU Rams led the University of Delaware Fightin Blue Hens the entire forty minutes as they cruised to a 68-55 victory in Newark, Delaware.
Brandenberg and the Ram guards made life miserable for the CAA’s second leading scorer, Devon Saddler, for most of the night. The reigning CAA freshman player of the year came into the contest averaging 19.1 points per game, but was held to just 10 on 3-of-19 shooting for the Blue Hens.
In VCU’s 68-55 win at Delaware Saturday, Haley delivered an 8-point, 5-rebound performance in just 12 minutes. He was limited by four personal fouls, but Haley also provided stout interior defense against Delaware’s front line of Jamelle Hagins and Josh Brinkley.
The Palmdale, Calif. native showed a little bit of polish, as well as power. Haley displayed a refined touch around the basket, hitting jump hooks with both his left and right hands. He also stuffed the 6-foot-6, 245-pound Brinkley twice on the same possession in an impressive show of force.
In a 3-way tie for 4th place in the CAA, the Rams (13-5, 4-2) kick off a 3-game home stand at 8PM on Thursday against William & Mary (4-14, 1-5).
