Vertical Gardens opens this Thursday, April 14, 2011, from 5:30-7:30PM:
It’s ALIVE! That’s one of the first things you’ll notice about the Virginia Center for Architecture‘s newest exhibition, Vertical Gardens. A giant eight-by-13-foot living wall, designed and installed by botanical artist Edmundo Ortega, is composed of hundreds of plants and captures the spirit of a budding movement.
Buildings around the world-from the Muse du Quai Branly in Paris, to the California Academy of Sciences in San Francisco-have embraced green walls and roofs for all their economical, environmental, and aesthetic values. See more than 20 projects, both built and conceptual, by artists and architects who imagine ways to add a bit more green to our urban environments.
