Open Source is a new local call-in show on WRIR, the first episode of which from last Friday dug into the economics of the new census numbers and then looked at homelessness in Richmond (and the Monroe Park Occupation). Listen or download at SoundCloud.
It’s a one-hour call-in show where we’ll have the Richmond region’s top newsmakers and analysts in the studio every Friday. I picked the name “Open Source” because I want your input, too, via calls, emails and Twitter.
Open Source will be on the air every Friday from 10-11am on 97.3 FM and streaming online at wrir.org. We’ll have podcasts of each week’s show available in the early afternoon.
The first 30 minutes this week are dedicated to dissecting the latest Census data, especially the income divide and rising poverty. Urban Studies guru, Dr. John Moeser, will be my first guest.
The second half hour will be a look at the region’s sudden increase in the homeless population over the winter. Karen Stanley from The Healing Place and Kelly King Horne from Homeward will be in the studio to discuss.
