Opinions heard on VMFA sign

Both the RTD and wtvr have write-ups on last night’s meeting on the VMFA sign:

Outraged that their opinions were not sought earlier, neighbors of the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts told administrators at a forum Tuesday night that the 15-foot sign to be erected in front of the museum is garish, lacking in imagination and not in keeping with the historic neighborhood.

Alex Nyerges, the museum director, apologized for failing to notify local historic districts and neighbors until one day before the museum sought state approval for the sign in November. He said the museum was racing against the clock to get the sign installed before a world-class Picasso exhibit opens in February.
