A while back we learned that All Star Market on Lombardy was closing and someday reopening as Sprout Market and Cafe at 1 N. Morris St. Well, that day has come and it is next Friday, May 14th. From the blog:
“Sprout is one of the newest members of the localvore movement in Richmond Va, serving lunch and dinner six days a week and offering to-go options, beer, wine, and quick-eats from our market. Localvore is the diet of eating locally, and Sprout is committed to dealing direct, whenever possible, with the farmers, growers, tofu makers, artisans, etc. that provide the food we serve. We plan to open in April [actually May, but who's counting] 2010 at 1N. Morris St. (close to VCU, and across from Crossroads Coffee Shop) and initially offer to-go sandwiches, soups, and items from our market. Then in the summer we will open our dining rooms!
We are very excited to start fresh in a new location and to pursue some of the ideas I’ve been thinking about since I first took over All Star Market & Deli in December 2006. All Star was a great learning experience, but was limited to it’s old flavors and expectations as well as the various restrictions that could not be overcome in that building (zoning laws, and lack of parking!). Sprout, as the name suggests, is a new beginning. My husband, Jamie, will also be part owner, which not only adds a second pair of hands but a second set of ideas and energies to shape and create Sprout into the socially conscious business we’ve only just begun to establish.
Come join us May 14th, 2010 for our Grand Opening Celebration featuring live music, puppet performances, art work from local artist Ashleigh Hobson, and lots more! Food and drink specials starting at 11am and available all day, music and events will happen early evening. See you then!
