Point?
I have no desire to live in the burbs, but some people want to have their .75-acre lot on a cul-de-sac and good public schools for their kids to attend. This sort of housing/land use doesn’t lend itself to corner groceries or neighborhood restaurants. Malls are actually a pretty efficient use of space, but is there a better alternative for the West End? What would that land be used for otherwise? A strip mall, perhaps? More cookie cutter neighborhoods?
Less unnecessary development — for one — and two, smarter use of space so as not to continually eat/use more land. Redevelopment/repurposing of already used land would be much better.
