New GRTC Board Appointments

The RTD reported this story a couple of days ago, although it seems to have scooted below the radar a bit. Given the imoprtant decision about the existing (but soon to be replaced) GRTC facility in the Fan, these are meaningful appointments. And one of Mayor Jones’ cronies (Sheila Hill-Christian) is among the appointments: Interesting [...]

So by now we hope you’ve heard that this Saturday is Hands On Day Greater Richmond. All sorts of volunteer projects will be going on around Richmond, including in the Fan. Volunteer for one of more than 40 service projects and be the change Richmond needs. Last year, 500 volunteers of all ages and skill levels [...]

Whattup (City) Dog?

RVANews breaks the news that City Dogs in the Fan (at 1309 W. Main St.) could be open as early as today. With a sports bar feel, game room, outdoor patio deck, and other amenities, City Dogs in the Fan is ready to welcome customers. And they have plans to continue to host some shows [...]

Department of Community Development Newsletter

Rachel Flynn sent along this link to the latest Department of Community Development Newsletter. It contains updates on implementing the downtown master plan in Manchester, a new online parcel mapper, and (perhaps most relevant to Fan residents) plans for the Master Plan of Monroe Park.* Richmond acquired the original 11 acres for Monroe Park in [...]

Another Fan Mugging

The RTD has this report of another mugging last night in the Fan. Sounds similar to this. A man was robbed at gunpoint in an alley behind his Fan District home last night. The man told Richmond police he was getting out of his car behind his home in the 1600 block of West Grace Street [...]

Assault on Grove

Richmond Police are reporting that two males with a gun assaulted another male in the 2100 block of Grove Avenue.  It happened last night (October 5th) around 10pm.

Fan Featured in RVANews Gallery

At least one of the photographs featured in a new (monthly) photo essay at RVANews.com comes from the Fan (the freshly re-painted Paradise Park to be specific) . Astute observers may be able to identify other photos with a Fan provenance. Regardless of where they’re from, the photos are great. Check them out. And submit [...]

Vote on Virginia Museum Curb Cut

From the Fan District Association informational email: As part of the Virginia Museum’s expansion, the Museum proposes to increase the curb cut (“driveway”) at Hanover Avenue and the Boulevard from the original 24 feet to 48 feet wide.  The plans call for one entry  and two exit lanes off the Boulevard.  The City has suggested [...]

Free Coffee and Doughnuts to Help Park Clean-Ups

If there’s a neighborhood park that you enjoy, you can go help clean it up this coming Saturday.  From the latest FDA Fanfare: The Fan District Association and the Fan Women’s Club are happy to announce the annual Fall Park Clean-Up scheduled for Saturday, October 10th from 9 am until 12 noon.  All Fan parks [...]

Latest Fanfare: Water Pipes

The latest Fanfare newsletter is now available–delivered as a hard copy to Fan residents and online as pdf here. The highlight for me is the explanation of the yellow pipes and construction work (aka DPU’s Cleaning and Lining Program–”giving new life to old water mains”) that is inescapable around the Fan. In 1983, Richmond began an [...]
