Fire Damages Grove Ave. Apartments
The RTD reports that an overnight fire damaged a 55 unit apartment building at 1400 Grove Ave. just west of VCU’s campus. No serious injuries (to tenants or firefighters) are known. The fire was reported around 2:10 AM and particularly damaged the first floor of the three story building.
Jones said the first units on scene found heavy fire in a first-floor unit near the main entrance to the brick building, which has a masonry facade. It took nearly 90 minutes to declare the fire under control.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
The two buildings next to this had recently (within a year) been gutted by fire also.
