House of Marinara posted a very strong review of Acacia Midtown. Since it’s one of my faves in Richmond, I guess I’m biased in linking to it, but so be it. The gist: Overall- the place was a hit hr. I want need to make a point of going back there soon.
Saturday Morning from 8AM-Noon, Grace Covenant Presbyterian Church, at 1627 Monument Ave., will host a giant multi-family yard sale (with baked goods!) on its front terrace. All proceeds from the sale will aid in international adoption.

I couldn’t make it to the VCU presentation about their plans for the old Ukrops at Harrison and Grace. But here’s a great summary from Richmond BizSense. The gist: It will probably be another six to eight months before the university begins to make use of the property, according to [University spokesman] Ohlinger. “We need [...]
Okay, so as a kid I remember mocking the obligatory Earth Day celebrations held at my school every April. But with all the recent attention on global climate change and with a maturing responsibility towards stewarding resources for the future, Earth Day makes sense. In the Fan, you may not immediately think of Nature. But [...]
The Museum District Association and Fan District Association are hosting a joint presentation from the developers of the proposed baseball project in Shockoe Bottom. The meeting is tomorrow night (Wednesday, April 22) at Albert Hall Middle (3400 Patterson Ave.) at 7 PM. It will be led by Paul Kreckman, Vice President for Highwoods Properties, the [...]
RVAJazz has a nice feature on Bogarts at 1903 W. Cary St. Bogarts is now re-opened after an overnight fire about a month ago. Established in 1970, Bogart’s has a rich history as one of Richmond’s favorite places to enjoy live music. Bogart’s has evolved from its early days as a weekend jazz club where [...]
This has been covered elsewhere and isn’t technically the Fan (but it’s close): Free cone day today at Ben and Jerry’s in Carytown from 12-8 PM. Expect long lines as long as the weather holds.
West Avenue–one of the nicer, if not most humble, areas of the Fan–is hosting its annual Garden Tour this Sunday. The garden tour is West Avenue’s premier event of the year. The tour includes homes on West Avenue as well as the alley bordering homes on Park Avenue and Franklin Streets. Children’s Activities Start at [...]

Brian Ohlinger will be highlighting the VCU expansion accomplishments that have occurred since the [...]
We noticed that Melissa Savenko recently posted a round up of some upcoming Fan events. Check it out if you’re looking to find something to do these next few weekends. We particularly commend swinging by the Binford Bash this Saturday (April 25th) from 11 AM-6PM at 1701 Floyd Ave. It’s an Arts festival that will [...]
Okay, so we’ve fallen a bit behind with some of these updates, but. . . Last Wednesday night (April 15th) there were 6 reported thefts from cars in the Fan. In each case GPS systems left in plain sight were stolen after windows were broken to gain access. This serves as an unfortunate reminder to [...]
